Both Vitamin A and Omega 3 Fatty Acids help promote and maintain healthy vision, particularly the retina and the cornea. The retina is located in the back of the eye and helps our eyes adjust when going from light into darkness. Although deficiencies are rare, without sufficient intake of Vitamin A we could develop night blindness. A severe deficiency could cause blindness.

The cornea is the clear window located in the front of the eye and gives us clear vision. Without sufficient amounts of Vitamin A, the protein, Keratin, could build up over the cornea and cause vision problems.

A combination of Vitamin A and Omega 3 Fatty Acids have been known to help prevent cataracts, macular degeneration, glucoma, visual health for diabetics and dry eye associated with lasix surgery and those who wear contact lenses.

Cataracts: Without sufficient amounts of Vitamin A we can be at risk of developing cataracts. The lens of the eye is damaged by oxygen and the lens appears to have thickened, thereby, causing cataracts.

Macular degeneration: This is a progressive disease of the muscles of the eye causing blurry vision and blind spots. In its advanced stage blindness can result.

Glucoma: Glucoma is a disease of the optic nerve and affects the peripheral vision in it's earliest stages. The pressure in the eye is elevated and irreversible blindness can occur.

Diabetics: High blood sugar levels pull fluid from the tissue in the eye causing blurred vision. Those with diabetes may experience blurred vision leading to blindness.

Dry eye: Those who wear contact lenses or who have had lasix surgery may experience drying of the eye. Medications and environmental fumes can also cause a drying of the eye. Severe drying of the eye is called xerosis, which is stage that leads to blindness if medical help is not obtained.

A combination of the following vitamins and minerals taken daily can reduce the risk of macular degeneration:

Vitamin C- 250 mg.
Vitamin E- 400 IU
Vitamin A- (Beta Carotene)- 15 mg.
Zinc- 80 mg.
Copper- 2 mg.
