Why Choose Breast Reduction?

Submitted by admin on Thursday, 25 June 2009No Comment

There are many reasons why a woman with large, pendulous breasts might choose to get a breast reduction. Debilitatingly large breasts can cause more than just the backache, headaches and other physical problems associated with the weight of large breasts. They can also be a social problem, since large breasts can attract unwanted attention in public, even if they are covered up. In an attempt to avoid attention and unwanted remarks, women who suffer from this condition sometimes feel they must give up looking attractive. The act of dressing every day just to cover up large breasts can have a great effect on a woman’s confidence.

It can also be difficult to find clothes that look good on large breasts. Excessively large breasts can make finding clothes that fit well difficult or impossible. In some cases, women who are affected with painfully large breasts cannot buy a bra that fits because no lingerie company manufactures their size.
Fortunately, breast reduction procedures are available which can address both the physical and psychological effects of large, uncomfortable breasts. Overall, the benefits of breast reduction surgery can greatly outweigh the risk for a patient who suffers from difficulty due to her large breasts. Though the surgery is performed under a general anaesthetic, candidates for breast reduction surgery can expect to spend as little as one or two nights in the hospital after the procedure.

A breast reduction is performed by making incisions around the nipple and down the lower part of the breast. Extra tissue is removed, reshaping the breast, and the skin is re-formed, creating a new, smaller breast contour. The new breast contour will be shaped to have a smaller, more natural look. The scars eventually fade until they are nearly invisible, but no incisions are made which appear above the cleavage line. One of the risks of breast reduction surgery is the potential inability to breastfeed after the procedure. Some techniques for removing breast tissue pose a higher risk to breastfeeding than others, and it is important to talk to your doctor about breast feeding if you wish to breastfeed a child after your breast reduction.
