Why Being a Parent is good for Your Blood Pressure
Most people associate having kids with endless headaches, having sleepless nights, worrying over where money for their schooling, medical care and other allowances will come from, but like everything else in life, parenting has a positive side too.
New research shows that parents have lower blood pressure compared to childless people. It had a higher impact on women than men, a 7 point difference in pressure levels between mothers and childless women, with mothers having the lower points. This can be explained by the fact that having children gives one a feeling of well being and purpose. It is a known fact that failure to get children is a cause of depression for most people.
According to the study, the number of children one has is not relative. Whether one parent has one kid and another has five, they all involve parenting, albeit in differing levels. Of course other factors may come to play such as illnesses, general health, age, weight, exercise, employment, lack of money, drinking history, among others. All these may influence one’s blood pressure from time to time.
This should be a big relief for those parents who think childless people have it easy in life! Read on.
