Today’s Generation Is Not Physically Active
Obesity among children has recently been a cause for worry. The lifestyle of the present generation is perceived to the main reason for obesity and other health disorders. Increased consumption of junk food and decrease in the amount of time spent on physical activities are the main two reasons for this alarming rate at which obesity is rising in children.
This data is based on the findings of a campaign initiated by Change4life in England. The campaign was launched with the aim of finding the reason for the sudden increase in the rate of obesity. Nearly 260,000 people participated in this poll. The findings have shaken the grounds of many parents and health authorities. According to the results of this poll, only 22% of the children did something active after their evening meal and about 72 percent of the children do not take part in the suggested sixty minutes of daily physical activity outside school. It is found that nearly 42 percent of the children spent their leisure time watching TV or playing computer or video games that does not involve any physical activity.
Eating healthy food and exercising rightly are the key factors for a healthy life. Children and youngsters are suggested a minimum of an hour of physical exercise every day in order to strengthen their bones and muscle strength. This study has sent a shock wave amidst parents and health authorities. There is great emphasis being laid on parents and others to tackle this issue. Experts opine that concrete steps need to be taken to motivate children to step out of their homes and move their muscles. Providing the right environment with safety for children to play and exert their body is of prime importance. Stress is being laid on family activities, because if this problem goes unattended, we can expect a generation of unhealthy, obese citizens.

this is one of the biggest problems for childrens’a health today. Gradually over the years the levels of activity have been reduced, and not just actual exercise, but simple things like walking / cycling to school etc… While many people blame bad diet as the main culprit for rising obesity levels, it’s equally important to look at the fall in activity levels… tackling just one of these has little effect without looking at the other!
