The Octuplets are doing well?
Reports are that the babies born just one month ago are doing well. There were six boys and two girls born. With birth weight ranging from 1 pound 8 ounces and 3 pounds 4 ounces. There is a wide variance in weight among these babies. All reports say they are doing well and this is wonderful news. Realistically speaking though, it must be noted that these babies could suffer problems that will not show up for months to come. There is a possibility of learning defects that will not show up for years. With all of the hoop-la about there being eight living babies, it is sometimes easy to get caught up in the excitement. However, the reality is, is that many premature infants have significant long-term health problems. There can be hearing problems, retinopathy of the eyes, and learning disabilities. We all hope and pray that none of these problems manifest themselves in these babies but the mother should be prepared for any eventuality.
You have to wonder what the doctor was thinking when he agreed to implant so many embryo’s in a young woman. Sometimes reproductive endocrinologists will transfer up to five embryos but this is usually only done in older mothers that have issues with getting pregnant in the first place. It is not fair to the babies that are born too soon and it is not fair to the mother who will have issues dealing with trying to raise eight babies at once. The doctor should ultimately be held responsible for his actions and he will be going before a review board. He will be judged by his peers. We will be hearing more about this aspect to the situation very soon. For more information, please go visit the source article.
