The Drawbacks And Benefits Of Giving Up Smoking
Heart disease, lung and pancreatic cancer, wrinkles, yellowish teeth and fingers, persistent coughing, and bad breath are some of the drawbacks of smoking. If these are not enough to turn you off from smoking, perhaps you would like to hear other consequences of smoking?
What about lower resistance, being relegated to corners or outdoors in many restaurants and public places, throat irritation, and dying a painful death?
In the United States alone, approximately 1,000 Americans lose their lives from the effects of smoking. One out of every six males dies because of smoking. That is pretty scary statistics, and should wake you up to the dangers of smoking.
Consider it carefully, 5 years from now, what would you have gained from smoking? Will your life be in a better position 5 years from now because of smoking? Don’t the research studies conducted all point out to the fact that most probably 5 years from now, you will be sicker and uglier?
The urgency many feel to help people quit smoking is on a high right now. The focus on health and wellbeing has never been more pronounced than in this century.
If you decide to quit smoking, these are some of the benefits you will gain: you will stop aging so fast; your body will recover after the toxins are cleansed; you will not have persistent cough anymore; your resistance to coughs and colds, at the very least, will get better; your body and breath smell will change 100%; your family will be ecstatic, and you will feel better.
The first step you should take after having finally decided to quit smoking is to have a plan. Your plan should have a goal, mini-goals, projected date of completion, and measures to attain your goals.
You should also include locations to avoid, people to hang out with, and food to avoid. The locations you should shy away from are the party and hangout places, such as bars, drinking parties, and the like.
You might find out that the people you think will help you quit may actually do the opposite. During this period, choose your friends carefully. Select to hang out with those who do not smoke. Finally, avoid those food and drinks that make you crave to smoke. One example is when you have developed the habit of smoking while drinking beer and eating chips. You can go back to these food, places, and people once you have kicked the habit successfully.
