According to a recent, muscles have more advantages than making you look good. Pumping iron regularly can reduce your cancer risks by a whooping 40 percent. An international team of researchers found that having strong muscles was as important as staying slim and eating right in fighting tumors. Apart from appreciative glances, building up muscles will give u a longer healthier life.

The team of scientists, led by scientists from Sweden’s Karolinska Institute has found that men should weight train and exercise both their upper and lower body at least twice a week. In the study, 8,677 men aged between 20 and 82 were studied for more than 20 years. Regular tests were done on each of the subjects regularly which included tests to find out the muscle strength. The numbers of men who developed cancer and died from it were recorded and the conclusions were drawn based on this.

The study gave clear results. It showed that the men who worked out regularly and had the highest muscle strength were about 30 to 40 percent less likely to develop cancer and die from it than the men who had weaker muscles and didn’t exercise regularly.

Among the men involved in the study, even the men who had high body mass index and fat deposits on the tummy, weight training was found to have a positive effect on their health. Even though maintaining healthy weight is important, doing cardio exercises twice a week helps build muscle strength.

A health information officer said, “There’s no need to become a body builder. Just 30 minutes of moderate exercise five times a week that leaves you warm and slightly out of breath can have a positive effect.” Regular moderate exercise also keeps your muscles healthy and strong.
