Increase In Teenage Pregnancies

Submitted by Shue on Thursday, 26 February 2009No Comment

After the shocking news of the thirteen year boy and a fifteen year old girl being parents, the world is faced with yet another alarming figure. A latest figure suggests that teenage pregnancies are on a rise. This increase is based on a study conducted in England and Wales recently.

According to experts, teenage pregnancy is a serious matter that needs immediate attention. The European government had planned on cutting the pregnancy rates by half in 2010, is not happy with the results of the latest study. The recent increase in the number of high-profile teenage pregnancy cases has brought to surface the repercussions these teenagers will have to face. The problem of child poverty is a major concern to the authorities.

The study has revealed that teenagers whose parent’s themselves were teenage parents have a tendency to conceive at an earlier age than advisable. This lays enormous stress on parents and other authorities to educate their wards at the right age about sex. Providing sex and relationship education in schools and colleges, ensuring a healthy and an open relationship with parents and teachers are of highest importance. Making contraceptive services young people friendly is also necessary.

Although the overall rate of teenage pregnancies have decreased, the authorities say that the rate of decrease hasn’t been as swift as required. They believe that greater work needs to be done to convey the importance of preventing early pregnancies. At the end of the day, it is not about the mechanisms of sex. It is about the relationship, moral values and ethics. It is about the right to make a choice. It is about understanding what is right and what is wrong. It is about enabling the youth with the rights tools to make the right decision at the right time. For information is to be found from the source article.
