Freeze away the fat

Submitted by Shue on Friday, 27 March 2009One Comment

FDA is on the verge of approving the new, innovative method of reducing fat. These are the exact opposite of saunas, and are used in cryotherapy spas where freezing temperatures are used to tighten skin. The method is called cryolipolysis and it is a non-invasive method where the specialist will place a small saucer sized, suction cup like apparatus on certain regions of the body and the heat is removed until the sub- cutaneous fat is frozen. As the epidermis remains in the normal temperature range, no damage is done to the skin. According to the dermatologist involved in the clinical trials, the heat removed from the fat is deposited on the outer layers. This method was thought of after it was discovered that fat cells are very sensitive to cold. In a study it was seen that localized freezing caused loss of adipocytes. The cells wither when they are subjected to low temperatures and they are removed by the body’s natural metabolic system. It is also seen that all the cells behave exactly the same hence uniform reduction can be seen in the area. This considers an approach opposite to what was tried until now. Previous methods employed heat to the lower layers while cooling the upper layers to prevent blisters. If approved by FDA, this method will become more popular than any other as it is more effective than using radio frequencies and acoustic waves and safer than liposuction. Except a little numbness, the procedure is painless and no side effects were observed in the 200 people it was tried on. The results were very impressive as 25 percent fat reduction was seen in just one session. One session is sufficient for most. But the number of sessions will depend on the amount of fat one would wish to lose. It takes a few months to see the results as the fat breaks down gradually.
