Foods That Bring Down Your Blood Sugar

Diabetes is a condition which can get worse if not controlled. Bringing the blood sugar levels under control is the most vital thing a diabetic needs to do in order to avoid any serious diabetic complications and to live a longer, healthier life.

The best way to do this is by having the right foods to lower the blood sugar. Therefore, in this article we shall discuss all those foods which help in bringing down your sugar level.

Lettuce

It has been confirmed by the American Diabetic Association that any type of food containing lower cholesterol, helps diabetics prevent occurrence of cardiovascular diseases. Lettuce happens to be a healthy vegetable, which not only contains low amounts of cholesterol, but also has only 3 – 4 % of carbohydrates. This forms a lethal combination when dealing with diabetes, making lettuce the ideal choice to control the blood sugar levels.

French Bean

French bean, also known as kidney beans are a great choice when it comes to your diabetes. When cooked properly, they taste delicious. These beans happen to be rich in proteins and fiber, with complex carbohydrates in reasonable amounts. Dietitians specifically recommend kidney beans to people suffering from diabetes, to control their blood sugar level.

Brussels Sprout

An effective natural remedy used by many diabetics is the juices of Brussels sprout mixed along with the juice of French beans. This potion works very well as it stimulates the insulin production, thus lowering the blood sugar.

Tomatoes

Tomato is one fruit which shouldn’t be avoided by diabetics who wish to lose weight. They naturally help in lowering carbohydrates and controlling the glucose levels in urine.

Bean Decoction

Another effective natural diabetes remedy is “Bean Decoction”. To prepare this remedy, boil 50 gm of fresh beans, with their seeds removed, in approximately 3 liters of water for 3 to 4 hours on a low flame. Then you need to strain this mixture through a clean strainer and leave it to cool down for a couple of hours. One glass of this mixture should be consumed every two hours for at least 6 weeks.

Soya Bean

Soya beans, which are extremely nutritious, not only check on your blood sugar level but also help in regulating the elevated glucose levels present in the urine of people with diabetes. Soya beans are extremely helpful as they are not only rich in proteins but also low in carbohydrates.

Onion

Onions have always been good for diabetics, either raw or cooked, as they tend to reduce the bloods sugar level. Onions contain an antidiabetic compound, which is very similar to the compounds (allicin, disulphide, propyl and allyl) that are being used synthesis of insulin.

Diabetes can be a serious condition if you allow it to take over. A balanced diet comprising of vegetables and fruits along with the above discussed foods really helps in maintaining the blood sugar levels. With a healthy lifestyle, these diet plans help a diabetic live a happier, healthier life.
