5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s and every 70 seconds someone in America develops this disease. According to a report one among 7 of us will develop Alzheimer’s by the age of 65. And after 85 one will have 50 percent chance of developing it. That’s a scary number. So next question would be what can one do?

This disease can bring forgetfulness, confusion and a total loss of identity. The chances can be higher if you have it in your family. If you has watch a loved one go through Alzheimer’s, the fear of developing it yourself can be unnerving. There’s a way to find out if you carry the genetic marker in your genes that relate to Alzheimer’s. one cannot find out for sure if one will get it but one care get a fair idea if it is possible. This will help you plan for the future and make necessary changes in your lifestyle to put it off as much as you can. One can also go for clinical trials if you wish to get involved.

The sad part about this disease is that the victims are not able to do anything about it.they cant talk about it or do anything to create awareness. They are usually kept under care or hidden away by their exhausted family. All the effort that can be put in has to be done by the family of victims. Creating awareness and doing everything you can to prevent it or slow it is what one can do.

Checking one’s DNA for Alzheimer’s disease is not a sure shot way of knowing you will get the disease, its not a diagnosis. But it is something worth checking for and a way of taking responsibility of your life. If you want to know more you can always check out the source of this article.
