Frequent glitches and problems with the computers are causing a lot of problems among the new generation. It has be called the computer stress symdrome. It is common to have problems with the software and hardware and this causes unnecessary stress and related issues among people. A lot of work does not get done due to the increased dependance on computers. The general feeling is that of frustration. This can have a very strong effect on the emotional balance of the person. He will get irritated and angry much more easily.

Technical anxiety is also part of the process. This is the tension of dealing with matters which we are not converstant with. This leads to an increase in blood pressure and stress levels. These are not good for the body and the mind. Comupter Stress Syndrome is one of the leading causes of nervous break downs as they help in increasing the stress levels.

Researchers at the U.S Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory have literally been able to get into the mind. they have developed a system which is able to visualise the rewards mechanism of the brain and how it works in addicts and non addicts. this way, they can understand the reason for the addictions and how best to treat them.Various factors influence the decision to take drugs. The basic effect it has on Dopamine is what is of interest to the researchers. the scientists have used a combination of positron emmission tomography along with special radioactive tracers. these tracers bind with the dopamine receptors and this gives us an idea of where they are going and which sites they are energising. this helps in understanding how they are working and where they need to be controlled.

Some times the dopamine response is effected too in the addicts due to which they get addicted to higher usage of drugs to stimulate themselves.

Nano engineering is the next level of engineering. It has become a very popular subject today. The use of small melanin covered nano particles to protect the bone marrow against radiation have become popular. Scientists at Albert Einstien college have come up with this novel method to protect patients during radation therapy. one of the basic problems of radiation therapy is that it can easily cause cancer. melanin- the naturally occuring pigment in the skin which shields it against cancer causing rays of the sun have been used effectively to shield normal cells which may be harmed during radiation therapy.

Nano tech is still in its nascent stage but when it comes to its use in cancer treatment, it holds immense hope. if the technology is perfected, it can help in curing cancers faster and more effectively.

According to a recent study, the cancer research that has been taken up by the U.S governments cancer research network, seems to be in shambles. The inefficency is very serious with almost 40% of the last stage research being cancelled due to lack of funding. The government funded national cancer institute is not able to even study the effects of various medicines on cancer patients and current treatments due to lack of patients. The gap between the number of people who are treated and number of people who are dying due to cancer is very high.

The study has recommended increasing funding for cancer studies simplifying the process of designing trails, and also offering doctors incentives to do such related research. if these new features are not introduced soon, then the introduction of new treatments will be delayed leading to a huge loss of life.

Scientists have created a new revolutionary handheld device that can detect HIV in a 10 minute time period. What’s more- this portable device is small enough to fit into your iPod case. Experts are expecting this breakthrough to revolutionize the way HIV is monitored in remote regions of Africa where access to testing is currently nonexistent.
“You need a device that a health worker can put into a backpack to reach the people in Africa or Asia,” said Peter Kiesel, one of the team’s researchers.

In addition to being battery-powered and pocket-sized, the device is efficient, too. It can provide a full immune system check-up in less than 10 minutes without sacrificing quality. “The quality of their test is great,” said researcher Bernhard Weigl of PATH, an independent reviewer. “If you look at their graph, it pretty much looked like the graph you would get from a big instrument.”

This device invented by researchers at California’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC)
“I would be surprised if the first technologies aren’t out by 2012,” said Weigl. “The market is big; you’re looking at many millions of users that have to get checked up every few months.”
