13 different hospitals in the state of California have been fined by the state for medical errors which have been committed leading to debilitating problems and even death. These errors have been caused due to negligence, lack of information and lack of experience. Most of the erring members are interns who have been given serious responsibilities. Some of the mistakes which have been committed are as follows. A misdiagnosis of a woman who was not pregnant as having an ectopic pregnancy had caused a lot of problems for the patient. She was given chemotherapy drugs which are very strong. It caused sore throat and lesions.

A man who was supposed to be restrained while undergoing treatment was left totally unattended and he pulled on his tracheotomy repeatedly and died. This was serious neglect on behalf of the hospital staff. A fine of $50,000 was slapped on the hospital. A surgical spoon left after surgery causes the patient to undergo a repeat procedure and here we can say that the patient was lucky to have survived the incident. All these incidents do attract penalties but the loss of life cannot be replaced.
