8 Tips For A Successful Cardio Workout

Submitted by admin on Sunday, 28 September 2008No Comment

Workouts can get boring after a while and the thought of all the sweating and panting that comes along with it may just make you lose interest and de-motivate you. However, if you put your mind to it and take the following tips into consideration, you will not only find it enjoyable but also have bigger cardio sessions.

1. Choose activities that you enjoy
People usually go for exercises that help in burning more calories or are known to be the best ones, don’t make this mistake. Instead choose an exercise you actually enjoy. If you don’t like running, replace it with some other activity you find interesting. If you think you’d be more comfortable with cycling or swimming, then it would make complete sense to choose these over the others. You can practice these activities 2-3 times a week, and since it would be something you enjoy, you won’t get exhausted easily or feel bored.

2. Select the right equipment
Make sure you do not compromise on the equipment for your workouts. Buying the right equipment is important for your own comfort and safety. If you are into running, purchase a quality pair of sneakers, or if you find swimming interesting, then buy a good, sports watch. When you get the new accessories, it’ll make you want to exercise as you enjoy the whole experience.

3. Turn your workout more pleasurable
Adding elements of fun to your workout will make it more pleasurable. If you find peddling your stationary cycle for a long boring, get your iPod or a magazine along with you. Your mind would get busy because of the activity and the music will motivate you to go further, giving an adrenaline rush. Once you start enjoying it, you’ll be done with your workout in no time.

4. Keep switching
Juggle between different exercises every 10 minutes, as continuously working on the same machine for even 30 minutes can get boring after a while.

5. Make every minute useful
While doing step aerobics, you can take the freedom to do some jumping rope or sprinting for 2-3 minutes between your sets. This will not only boost your energy levels but also stop any boredom from setting in.

6. Have a full body exercise
When you are cycling, since half of your body is stationary, you burn less calories than running. By putting in bit more effort you can put all your body muscles to use while running.

7. Get rid of the fat
Cardio exercises are known to work really well for burning fat, especially when you practice them on an empty stomach. So you can do cardio exercises of your choice right after you wake up in the morning.

8. Wait some time before you eat
If you are serious about shedding those extra pounds then you should wait at least an hour before eating anything after your cardio workout. Since your heart rate is still high after the workout is over, the fat is burned in this interval.
